PANAMA FILM COMMISSION
The DICINE INTEGRAL WORKSHOP 2018 has as main objective, to carry out a formative-creative and cinematographic process, in the areas of SCRIPT, PRODUCTION, CINEMATOGRAPHIC DIRECTION, ART DIRECTION, PHOTOGRAPHY DIRECTION, and ACTORAL DIRECTION.
A total of 72 filmmakers had a process of professional creative training and were part of the crew of 6 days of shooting that resulted in one cinematographic work.
A group of Panamanian and international professionals coordinated the creative process and produced, with the support of MICI DICINE, a cinematographic work for new filmmakers who can be part of the industry in Panama.
HISTORIC CONTEXT:
In January of 1887, the leader of the Universal Company of the Interoceanic Canal of Panama (Compagnie Universelle du Canal Interocéanique of Panama), Ferdinand de Lesseps, stubbornly stuck with the construction of a canal at sea-level. This phase of the construction would begin on January 15, 1888 but during this year, after starting construction, and with some areas completed, the money was abruptly over.
Since his faith was no longer enough, and forced to keep a good publicity before the French, he didn’t reveal the statistics of death, sickness and levels of corruption. Due to the high and unnecessary expenses it was announced in the French press that it was the worst financial disaster in the XIX century. The company's economic situation was reflected in the price of its shares, and a lottery was projected with the company's bonds.
However, this was not enough to stop the crisis and in January 1889, the shareholders decided to dissolve the company leaving more than 85,000 subscribers in ruins.
The canal project would continue to advance without funds until May 15, 1889. In 1903 the rights that cede the construction to the US were signed in perpetuity, and the Republic of Panama was founded.

The art direction workshop had the purpose of designing and creating the visual appearance of six units of action, that together would form a short film of 20 min. I worked with an incredible team of professional filmmakers who together provided our knowledge to young people who are beginning in this industry.
I led a team of 12 people, which I divided into three groups. Each group had to develop two scenes, develop the characters, design the locations and find or produce the props for each one.
The experience was very rewarding and successful, I met very creative, talented and dreaming young people, full of energy and optimism. I also learned from them, and the final result is a quality and professional cinematographic piece.
